OWL - Observation Without Limits Drone Radar

OWL or - Observation Without Limits - is one of the premier companies to begin manufacturing drone detection radar systems. GroundAware is their event-based, layered approach for perimeter security in which intruders can be detected in real-time.

OWL’s 3D drone detection radar systems provide detection, tracking, and classification capabilities to monitor and respond to drone threats at significant ranges (3 miles for Class 1, up to 9 miles for larger drones).

OWL sensors can be used solely for drone threat situational awareness or as the 3D surveillance foundation of fully integrated counter-drone solutions.

With Aerial Armor that includes RF sensors, the DJI AeroScope, thermal imaging systems, electronic and kinetic counter-measures, and associated command-and-control drone detection software.

GA9120 3D Drone Radar System

The GA9000 series of drone radar systems is one of OWL’s most effective radar systems. This technology can detect, track, classify and respond to security threats posed by class 1 and 2 drones, as well as other aircraft in low-altitude airspace along with humans, animals, and vehicles on the ground. 

The GA9000 series systems offer a range of up to 15km(~9 miles) and a 360-degree field of view.

Have A Drone Detection Radar Question?

Is there a way to detect drones?

There are multiple ways to detect a drone and these include (but not limited to) RF analysis, radar, and visual tracking through thermal and daylight cameras.

But, to detect all types of drones, you need a layered solution. Aerial Armor specializes in layering multiple detection solutions to give our clients the best results based on their needs and budget.

Can airport radar systems see drones?

Typically, Air Traffic Control towers will not be able to see your drone on radar.

Specially tuned radar systems can detect drones, but that is generally different from the radar systems used at airports.

Can drones be detected by radar?

Drones can be detected by radar, but they are often hard to distinguish from birds and other similarly sized objects that might be in the sky. We recommend layering radar with a thermal camera for visual confirmation. 

Aerial Armor’s software will automatically slew the camera to the area of activity (identified by the radar) for visual confirmation. This greatly improves the accuracy of detection and reduces false signals.

What makes a drone detectable?

Most drones are detectable due to the fact that they use RF signals to communicate with their controller. These RF frequencies can be monitored by RF sensors like the DJI AeroScope.
